Very Late Romans

I bought 32 of these boys 4-5 years ago on eBay, and they have finally made it to the front of the queue.  The shields, in particular, are beautifully hand painted (have a click!).  I've painted 16 figures to match (at the back), and later will add spare shields that I had the presence of mind to buy, at the time, from the seller, to round out my first two 24-man Auxilia.  I'm also planning to rebase the 16 minis of the right, which look a little bit too regular (and my basing has improved).

They are all Foundry minis, sculpted by the Perrys.  A lovely range, just a tad on the small side for my tastes.  Some day I might replace them with bigger GB or perhaps the new Muskateer minis.

Wow, I love the shields on both units, they'd definatly give the enemy a headache if they stared at them long enough!

They look very nice. The "ying/yang" pattern on the shields is very well done, very clean and defined lines on both sets of shields.

I do love the ying yang, m'self. There is a shield on the Notitia like that, but with different colours.

I had a very nifty idea earlier, about basing... more anon.

Nice and like you I'm looking forward to the new Musketeer Romano British/late Romans or early Byzantine or how you view them.

Cheers

I rather like the old basing. Lovely troops.

Hi Christopher, yes the Muskateers look very late, indeed! I'll probably hold off until I've painted some more Middle Imperials, though.

James, my basing style has evolved and they are the wrong colour. They'll look a lot better when I'm done...

Hi Maxim, yes they are vin and yang; happily it is based on a Roman design (although the colours are a little different).

I've just started to base them up...

I've seen those in flesh this week end : they're at least as good in flesh as on the pictures !

I've just this minute, finished painting and flocking the bases. It took me 4 nights to do the 2 units! Hope to take pics, tomorrow...
