Can a man have too many Romans?

This is the first of a number of Middle Imperial Romans units that I intend to paint.  I bought 23 of these, nicely painted, on eBay, and painted one more to match.  I've taken them off their WAB bases , retouched and removed their shields (they had oval shields, which feels wrong with Segmentata).  I've given them Black Tree Scuta, becuase I feel the A&A are a little irregular in size.  I hope to start basing, tonight...
I will be doing a Late Roman army too, lots to do...

  2. It was, of course, a rhetorical question... :-)

  3. How many Romans would be too many ?
When I collected them, the answer was...as many as I can get :-D

  4. Clearly a case of ".....when too many romans is barely enough....."

Another army pack should "nearly" do it?

  5. One can have too many Romans, of course. But never too many Middle Imperial Romans!
    Great period I say.

  6. I'm looking forward to painting some more. The "auxiliary" figures are particularly nice. I'm thinking perhaps 100 figures over the next year.

If only that Dr Phil Hendry fellow hadn't already painted most of the range, so brillantly...

  7. this bring us to a less rhetorical question : Can a man have too many unpainted romans ?

  8. Romans are one thing around here, that do, generally, tend to get painted.... but that said I do have 5-600 unpainted.

  9. Heh - you win on the unpainted score. Only about 200 unpainted here, but there's a good 100 more I need to buy for the complete EIR Legion.

Mind you, I gather from conversation around our club we can between us raise about two legions of unpainted at 18 figs/cohort :D

  10. Hi Mike, I reckon I have around 1000 Romans painted; 3 legions of 240 EIR and Caesarian, plus contingents of Polybian, Middle and Late Imperials. Also a couple of hundred more part painted, that need finishing or basing.

  12. Hi Andrew, sorry I've not got a lot of spare Foundry Caesarians; they are one army that does get painted, around here.

  13. You could look at the Aventines, though. Some of the Hastati and Command are very suitable as Caesarians....

  14. If you want to "give" me a few "to be painted" ones when I'll come for salute, please do, BTW.
