I've made good, if slow, progress with this project. The first half of the legion (below, clickable) is painted and based. I still need to add tufts, tonight, and do a little snagging work; then they will be finished.
.Around half of the second half (not shown) are also stuck onto their bases. Nick is furiously painting away on a draft of reinforcements, in Essex, which will complete the legion (at 1:20 scale).
In other news, I have been inspired by these stunning photos to dig out a project I last worked on around 20 years ago... more anon.
Oh man that's plate full of miniatures!Good luck!

Thanks Cristopher. The tray is surprisingly heavy...
ReplyDeleteVery nice as always - so that's what a Roman column would look like, I suppose. I really like your take on integrating different (yet similar) shield patterns in the same unit. Very realistic looking. Dean
ReplyDeleteHi Dean, when these are done, I shall put them together with my other legion, which will give me 480 legionaries; the magic number for a cohort and a nice photo opportunity.
ReplyDeleteModelling units of these little blighters does make one appreciate quite how large legions were!
That's one big basin full of Romans Simon, even for alf a Legion.
ReplyDeleteThis is really looking great. Beside what the other said (and I agree with everyone), I also like the little gaps on some of the bases, especially the command ones : they give this "quite not so well trained" touch wich fit well with your theme (is it an english word ?).
ReplyDeleteHi Greg, yes "theme" is the right word. I prefer these to my normal legions. I could almost be tempted to re-base... no, that would be madness!
