Here is the latest unit of my burgeoning Numidian army. This is one of two projected units of Numidian "Auxilia"; troops in a slightly denser formation than the previous light infantry.
14 of the 18 minis were painted by Greg and retouched by me, I painted the other four. The minis are a mixture of Foundry, A&A and Crusader (the eagle-eyed will spot that a couple of Foundry Spartans and Greeks have crept in; the Greeks were nekkid so I gave them greenstuff robes).
I've now finished 68 of the 200-ish Numidian/Carthaginian foot. I'm managing about 30 a week, so there must be at least another month's retouching/basing to go...
I can almost hear your sigh..
ReplyDeleteYes it is going to be a tough month! But at least I will have most of a new, largish army completed by mid November.
ReplyDeleteMissing one or two days and already so many new posts. :) Love the Numidians. I thought I spotted a Spartan there. :) Great use for them.
ReplyDeleteHi Doc; I think so, too; they even have plaits in their hair.
ReplyDeleteThey are also going to be heavily recruited into my projected Jewish Revolt army...
Very nicely done. I began painting up some Caesarean Romans and allies a few years back - they make a nice change from 18th century. Your posts are encouraging me to dust them down! What rules so you use, btw?
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Giles
Hi Giles,
ReplyDeleteWe mostly play with the command and Colors Ancients boardgame rules, on a hex grid. Having said that, I have long been planning a set of (simple) rules of my own, to be played on a square grid with units of around 24 figures.
Caesarians are my main period; there are some pics of a large battle early on in t'blog. I'm thinking about doing a big battle (perhaps Thapsus?) at Salute in 2011, in which I could use both my Caesarians and my Numidians.
How do you intend on creating your Jewish Revolt army?
ReplyDeleteThey will have to all be conversions; Foundry Spartans and Greeks, perhaps some Polemarchs. Some BTDs maybe...
ReplyDeleteJewish tunics seem to have been open at the sides, they had fringes at the corners of their garments, and characteristic cloaks.
At the moment I'm just collecting suitable models, when I find them cheaply, for later conversion. There is an Osprey on the army of King Herod Coming out soon...
Sounds like a good plan. An interesting period, I look forward to seeing them!
ReplyDeleteIt'll be a while, Consul! Lots to paint first; celtic army to "top off", caesarian reinforcements required and my Auxilia project is barely begun. Also the Hellenistic army needs to be done...
ReplyDeleteI love the cow hide shields.
ReplyDeleteDead easy to paint! Are you off to SELWG?
ReplyDeleteVery, very nice. We are thinking of doing a 28mm game at the SOA day too. What OOB are you using? I'm finding the different estimates of what the troop types are a little baffling to say the least and we need to look at the holes in our collections!
ReplyDeleteHi Legatus,
ReplyDeleteI can send you the OOB; drop me an email as simon dot miller (a t) lineone dot net.
We are using Command And Colors Ancients rules; same as for Kynoskephali (Sp). You may recall we met briefly... I was with my mate who ran the pretty 15mm game on the carpet hills.
