King Juba

Juba commands one wing of my Numidian horse. He's a GB casting on an A&A horse, and his drummer is from Crusader. I painted this one, Greg! ;-)

I'm not entirely satisfied with the model, as I picture him in Roman/Greek generals gear, and the blue tunic didn't quite work. But I like his beard.

  1. I've been reading about Juba recently, and somewhere on the internet I found a nice illustration of the man by Peter Connolly. He painted it for a museum display in N. Africa... I think. Unfortunately, I can't find it now, but I remember he dressed him in greek style armor.

  2. Indeed, Andrew. Yes I have seen that picture, and used it as the basis of another command stand that I'm intending to put up in the next few days... but it won't be tomorrow as I have an exam. :-(

  3. I've seen a Juba in a movie who was all green and looking like a huge worm with a big toad mouth... oh wait, it was Jaba, my bad.
