I just use the actual washes (dips) which I originally bought as an experiment, but was too tightfisted to ditch when I wasn't over-impressed. However, although they're a gloss finish, they're still easy to paint over and highlight once dry and then topped off with a coat of matte varnish. And they're cheaper than the inks.

Thank's for the really useful and detailed review. This kind of information is so useful before venturing into spending money on new products (something that I am always a little shy of doing!). I think I will get some of the warpaint ink and give it a try. :-)

Hi Crazy Joe, I use the dips, too, sometimes. I hit them with Testors Dullcote, 2 coats of that sorts them out, nicely. But there's a lot to be said for something that dries matt straight off.

Jason, I'll post some pics after I get mine, at Salute.

Cheers, Simon

I didn't even know Devlan Mud had been decommissioned, and just after I've started to realise its usefulness, too! Good to know there's a ready replacement available.

Another "great" decision from GW, nerfing a product almost the whole painting world was using huh?

I'll add my thanks for the review. I've also sworn off GW, moving to primarily P3 but using other where worth it. I'll definitely be checking this out at some point.

Killing Devlan was bonkers... I still use GW for paints, sometimes, but that is mainly because they opened a shop at the end of my road!

Very nice review !

I to have started to use Armypainter Warpaint Strong Tone as an alternative to Devlan Mud.

Best regards Michael

It is always painful when the one item that you consider essential to your hobby is discontinued. Inks especially. Once you find that shade that you like and understand how to use its absence is sorely felt.

Thanks for the review!
